Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

Seeing things differently

As practitioners of TCM, we view the human body in an entirely different way to our colleagues in Western medicine. Instead of viewing our internal organs as separate solid structures, we regard them as interconnected functional units. So any malfunction, in any part of the body, is seen as having an underlying cause that must be addressed by treating the person as a whole.

According to the principles of TCM, a person’s health is determined by the state of their vital energy or Qi. Any blockage in the pathways along which Qi flows, or any imbalance in the two components of Qi – Yang and Blood - Yin can cause disharmony or disease.

TCM and fertility

Both Western and TCM doctors believe that fertility originates in the brain. Western medicine links this with the production of hormones and the consequent behaviour of the ovaries or testes. However, TCM defines all conditions in terms of the functioning of bodily organs. In cases concerning conception, it is the flow of energy to the reproductive organs, which comes under scrutiny. At The Zhai Clinic, we use Chinese herbs, acupuncture and dietary modifications to clear up unhealthy energy patterns and restore depleted energy. By helping to regulate the menstrual cycle and improving the quality of eggs and sperm, we can assist in fertilisation and a healthy pregnancy.

We treat a full range of problems associated with infertility in both men and women including:

  • hormonal and ovulatory problems
  • polycystic ovaries
  • endometriosis
  • recurrent miscarriage
  • unexplained infertility
  • male infertility – including low sperm count, low motility, high abnormal form or anti-sperm anti-bodies
