What is traditional Chinese medicine (TCM)?
TCM is a unique, distinct and independent medical system that has been practised in China for more than 5,000 years. It is still the medicine of choice in China today, although Western medicine is practised alongside it.
TCM practitioners are taught to view the human body in a holistic way. TCM treats the person as a whole, acknowledging that the mind and body are inseparable and have a profound influence on one another. The malfunction of one organ will affect the rest and internal problems will have external symptoms. Therefore, it recognises that the human body should be finely balanced.
Before proposing a treatment plan, we will take into account the result of any conventional investigations. Where necessary we can carry out investigations and pathology tests here. We also consider other aspects such as a patient's pulse, appearance of their tongue, diet, lifestyle and external environment.
Once we have established a treatment plan for a patient, it will involve the use of Chinese herbs, acupuncture and possible diet recommendations. The treatments' aim is to help patients establish a healthy reproductive system, which will benefit egg and sperm quality to achieve a healthy pregnancy. |
